Mulayam, Mayawati neglected Muslims: Rahul Gandhi

Blaming Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati for not attending to the issues of the Muslim community, Congress (I) General Secretary has said these leaders have been neglecting the Muslim aspirations.  These parties have been using the minority in their power game but done nothing for their welfare over the last twenty two years, said Rahul Gandhi while campaigning for the ongoing Assembly elections.  Congress (I) has given them the biggest gift of 4.5 per cent quota for reservations in government and educational jobs, he said adding that this will go a long way to help them in improving their social-economic conditions. Although Mulayam and Mayawati are now saying that 4.5 per cent quota is insufficient, in their own tenures as chief minister none of them gave any reservation to the minority. Highlighting that these leaders are only interested in votes of the Muslims, Rahul Gandhi urged the people to vote for Congress (I) and assured that his party would review the quota for increasing it further based on population of the community.

Rahul Gandhi slams BJP for its the double standard on corruption

Ridiculing BJP for its hypocrisy and dubious policies on all public issues, Congress (I) General Secretary RahulGandhi has said that the BJP has been following double standard on the corruption issue as well.  BJP has one face for projecting its image to the public and another masked face for graft.   BJP leader L K Advani undertook Rath Yatra for highlighting corruption in the country. But he did not see any corruption in BJP ruled states like Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Uttarakhand. There was unprecedented corruption during the Vajpayee led NDA government while Advani was Dy Prime Minister as well as Home Minister. There were scams and scandals like Coffingate (Kafan chor ghutala), sale of PSUs, Telecom and Petrol Pump and DDA scandals. Highlighting that it was BJP which defeated strong Lokpal Bill in the Parliament, Rahul Gandhi said BJP has been only making noises about corruption to fool the people. He assured that Congress (I) will not rest till Lokpal Bill becomes a reality and Lokpal is accorded constitutional status.

Mayawati helped the rich, not the poor: Rahul Gandhi

Blasting Mayawati for having been chief minister of the state for four times yet the plight of the poor remains the same, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said that she helped only the rich and not the poor. She has been following anti-poor, anti-people and anti-farmer policies, Rahul Gandhi said while addressing a public meeting in Jewar, Noida on February 23 for the ongoing Assembly elections.
She does what benefits her and not that benefits the people, he further said.  Referring to Bhatta-Parsaul brutal incident, he said Mayawati did injustice with the farmers.  Their lands were forcibly taken over in the name of development and handed over to corporate builders.  When the poor farmers asked for fair compensation for their lands, Rahul Gandhi said they were dubbed as ‘naxals’ and bullets were fired upon them, their property destroyed and their women dishonored. This is what Mayawati did for the poor, he added.
Highlighting that the only way to ensure welfare of the people and over all  development of the state was to put Congress (I) in driver’s seat in Lucknow, Rahul Gandhi fervently appealed to the people to vote for Congress (I) to make this possible.  Assuring fast track development he said, “Give us 5 years and we will show you what we can do. We will change the face of the state and you will be able to see the impact in five years,” he added.

Rahul Gandhi slams Maya, Mulayam for their stance on reservation

Congress General Secretary RahulGandhi took on both Mayawati and Mulayam Singh Yadav for their stance on reservation for backward Muslim. He was addressing a huge election rally in Hapur as part of his election campaign in Uttar Pradesh where the assembly elections are underway.

Rahul Gandhi said “Mayawati says that she has written to the Prime Minister on reservation. Nothing is going to happen with letters. She has been in power, but took no steps in this regard.”

“When media persons had asked Mulayam Ji about his stand on reservation, he did not utter any word. But when Congress, Manmohan Singh Ji and Sonia Ji went ahead with reservation, he complained that it was inadequate. He was the Chief Minister in UP thrice. Why did not he do anything then? When Rasheed Masood Ji talked about reservation he was expelled from SP,” said the Congress leader questioning the double speak of SP Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on the issue of Muslim reservation.

“The leaders in Uttar Pradesh do nothing. It is the people here who work hard. The poor labourers and farmers shed their sweat and blood and develop the country. But the leaders do not respect them. They loot the money, meant for the poor. During election time they come to you and make tall promises. After coming to power, they forget the people and loot their money. This has been happening for the past 22 years in UP,” said the Congress General Secretary.

Mayawati’s BSP a den of corruption: Congress (I)

Slamming Mayawati for utterly failing to fulfill her promises, Congress (I) has said her BSP is a den of corruption and crime.  The people cannot get anything done without paying bribe, said Rahul Gandhi while speaking at a public meeting in the wake of upcoming UP Assembly elections. Many of her ministers and legislators have been involved in corruption cases.  Lokayukta has indicted a number of them for misuse of official position. To make a show that she was against corruption she had to remove the corrupt ministers. It is not the first time she is facing such charges. Previously she had to expel mafia-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari from the party. In May, 2010 too she expelled over 500 party leaders/workers with criminal records. Highlighting this sleazy state of affairs in Mayawati’s regime, Rahul Gandhi requested the people to vote for Congress (I) which would provide responsive government.
