Congress’s pro-poor policies are productive and in national interest: Rahul Gandhi

Launching a scathing attack against Mayawati for seeking votes of poor but after coming into power following anti-poor policies by aligning with rich and corporate builders, Rahul Gandhi has said Congress (I) pro-poor policies are productive and in the national interest. Congress is pro-poor and it will continue to work for the poor, said Rahul Gandhi while campaigning for Congress in Uttar Pradesh.
Highlighting that unlike the previous governments’ treatment of the poor as deserving recipient of occasional state doles, Rahul Gandhi said, Congress (I) government has made them partners in development process taking place in the country. Rahul Gandhi believes that poor people have potential but only lack resources. They need opportunity. Accordingly thrust area of Congress (I) is on capacity building programs for the poor. Congress (I) President Sonia Gandhi as chairperson of National Advisory Council and Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on the ground level are working on number of programs to empower the poor and to help them to stand on their own feet. This pro-poor approach of Congress (I) is in the national interest. The strength of nation lies in strength of its people, as a whole, and not in the riches of few urban elite, Rahul Gandhi said. Pointing out that no other party has done so or thinking in these terms to empower the poor, Rahul Gandhi said Congress (I) record of performance for the poor outmatch any other party.
