Congress President Sonia Gandhi while addressing an election rally in Gurdaspur, Punjab said that the Akali-BJP government had destroyed and devastated the State and blocked development. She urged the voters to replace the present government in Punjab with a pro-poor Congress Government for all-round development of the state.
Sonia Gandhi alleged that the SAD-BJP government created a big hindrance in the development of the state as it had not let Central schemes to get implemented here. “Congress led Government at the Centre has made a number of welfare policies for the people. But there have been scandals and embezzlements all round and corruption is at its peak. The UPA Government at the /centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Ji had provided funds of several thousand crores under various schemes to the state but the Akali-BJP Government did not utilize these funds properly,” said Sonia Gandhi. “Instead of using these funds for the development of Punjab they diverted the money to protect their own petty interests and for the benefit of their own people” she added. “The present Government never listened to the voices of the poor. We will have to take out the state from this darkness” urged Sonia Gandhi.
