Sonia Gandhi assures: Death of Delhi gang rape victim will not go in vain

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Sunday while addressing the Congress’ Chintan Shivir in Jaipur said that the Delhi gang-rape victim embodied the spirit of an aspirational India and the government would ensure her sacrifice did not go in vain.
"The barbaric gang-rape of a young woman in the nation's capital has shaken the entire country. People are rightly demanding answers and action. This brave young woman in many ways embodied the spirit of an aspirational India. We will ensure that her death had not been in vain," Sonia Gandhi said on the final day of the party's 'Chintan Shivir'.
Sonia Gandhi added she would continue to press for passage of the bill for one-third reservation to women in assemblies and parliament. "I assure you I will personally continue to press for the passage of the law that would provide for one-third reservation for women in parliament and in state legislature," she said.
The Congress President said that the rape victim was tragically a symbol of thousands of women and children throughout the country who face a similar fate, whose lives are ruined or worse, and who are denied justice. "Every woman and every girl in our country has a fundamental constitutional right to feel safe and secure, to enjoy full equality in every respect," said Sonia Gandhi.
The Congress president also said the government was taking a series of steps to ensure higher gender equality, and counted legislative reservations as a major step. "Their (women's) growing involvement in panchayats and local administration is giving them a new voice and confidence. Making people aware of such legislation's and demanding its enforcement must become a priority in our political activities," she said.
Sonia Gandhi also slammed the series of anti-woman statements that have come out recently, saying it reflected a shameful mindset. "We cannot tolerate the shameful social mindset that leads to unspeakable atrocities on women and children. "In the last few weeks, some public figures have come out with truly shocking statements reflecting on these completely unacceptable attitudes. The Congress party has always been on the forefront, in the struggle for full empowerment of women and we will continue this campaign," she said. Sonia Gandhi said several new laws have been enacted and amendments made to ensure equal rights of inheritance, protect women from domestic violence and prevent sexual harassment at workplace.
Sonia Gandhi also mentioned a World Bank-aided project, Aajeevika, for expansion of women self-help groups and said enhanced focus on sanitation would have a positive impact on the dignity of women.

Sonia Gandhi at Chintan Shivir calls for unity among Congress workers

In the Congress’ ‘Chinthan Shivir’ held in Jaipur, the Congress President Sonia Gandhi has sincerely attempted to introspect on many affairs. Sonia Gandhi tried to explore the inherent weaknesses and the core strength to caution and at the same time encourage the party cadres.
Sonia Gandhi warned the workers that they should take note of the fact that the party has floundered many opportunities. She said it was due to inability of the Congress party to function as disciplined and united team.
She admitted the need to balance the allies and Congress party. She felt that the traditional strongholds (in Congress votes) have been taken over by others. She has proposed a solution to get back what has been lost at the same time stressing the importance of having allies and asked the delegates to..
Touching upon gender issue like atrocities on women, discrimination against girl child, sexual harassment, women trafficking and female foeticide, Sonia Gandhi said women’s security is on top of the party’s agenda.
Sonia Gandhi also issued a warning to Congress workers that the middle class is fed up with corruption they face. She realized that middle class is growing and educated. Therefore they are better equipped to expect from the Government.
Sonia Gandhi added that for the Congress party, inclusiveness was not a political ploy to win elections. She claimed that the Congress is the only party combining economy with social harmony and justice. Sonia Gandhi stressed, “Development through economic growth and social justice are two sides of one coin”.
Sonia Gandhi has delivered a well prepared speech with five commandments which shows clarity of thoughts. It is really good to see that she has desisted from attacking the rival of the Congress party, BJP. Instead she has addressed the issues confronting her party and the Nation, a good sign for positive approach.

Sonia Gandhi follows footsteps of Rajiv Gandhi

“Who can forget the efforts of late Sh. Rajiv Gandhi to develop the Dahej region which is now considered to be one of the biggest industrial areas? More development works are in progress in this region as some roads are going to be converted as National highways soon” had said Sonia Gandhi, the Congress President and UPA Chairperson while addressing a mammoth Congress rally in Mandvi recently during her campaign for Congress in Gujarat.
During her campaign, the Congress President  took on the Modi-led BJP government in the state and said that the people are fed up with the present state government. “I know that  people are fed up with this government and Gujarat now needs new direction and that can be provided only by the Congress” said the Congress President and assured “we will work with sincerity, honesty, determination and commitment to fulfill the promises made in the Congress manifesto and will bring in radical development in Gujarat”
Striking an emotional chord with the people in the region Sonia Gandhi said “We have been maintaining a good relationship with the Southern Gujarat. I will never forget the support and affection you had extended to Indira Gandhi when she was passing through a bad phase in her political career in 1977. Our critics are trying to weaken our relationship but have failed. I salute your commitment and honesty and assure you that we will maintain this healthy relationship with you forever”.
Listing the pathetic state of affairs of the Adivasis in the region, the Congress President continued “The people of Southern Gujarat are polite, honest and hardworking.  But still, why there is so much poverty in this adivasi dominated area? Why there are no improvements in the life and financial condition of adivasis in the state?  The BJP government in the state has been talking loud about the 15000 cr worth Van Bandhu Kalyan Yojana.  But where has the money gone? Where are the facilities promised by the BJP government to the Adivasis in the state?”

Sonia Gandhi in Delhi: Opposition tries to weaken the democratic system

Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Sunday encouraged the partymen with an aggressive speech defending her party and the UPA government at the centre. She also argued that only Congress is committed to work for the benefits of the poor and underprivileged.
Slamming the opposition, Sonia Gandhi said “I want to make it clear that these parties are trying to weaken the democratic system of our country.  But we will never let them to do so.  Congress is a party that has always protected the nation’s constitution”.  “We never allowed anyone to disrupt the democratic principle of the system and we will never ever allow such trends. The people who never find it wrong to indulge in weakening our democratic system, will never find it wrong to spread rumours about others” warned the Congress President.
Taking an indirect jig at BJP Sonia Gandhi added “Those who are talking about corruption are finding themselves neck-deep in corruption.  There is a saying that there are wells waiting for those who dig caves for others”.
“Corruption is a cancer which affects the common man the most. But we have fought this disease before and we will continue to fight this disease with all strength once again. We will fight all graft charges against us and none found guilty will be spared.  It was the Congress, which brought a strong legislation to tackle corruption – the RTI, through which any one can get information about the government” explained the Congress leader.
“You just ask yourselves whether anybody can bring such an important legislation, other than Congress? Such a law can be enacted by only a government which is committed to fight graft effectively and it is only the Congress” said Sonia Gandhi.
Several senior Congress leaders including General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also addressed the rally at the historic Ramlila grounds.

Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Sunday encouraged the partymen with an aggressive speech defending her party and the UPA government at the centre. She also reiterated that only Congress is committed to work for the benefits of the poor and underprivileged.
Launching a scathing attack on opposition, Sonia Gandhi said “Today there a lot of rumours are being spread against the party and the government. The opposition is levelling several allegations of corruption against the government. What is the truth and untruth in these allegations needs to be understood well.  The voters reposed faith in the Congress in 2004 and 2009. A few parties have not been able to digest this”.
Slamming the opponents for the negative stance, the Congress President added “ They have been trying to weaken the government elected by the people and they continue to halt our welfare policies by frequently obstructing the function of the parliament.  Why they are doing so?  Why they are opposing the policies which are meant for the poor and aam aadmi?  Why they are not allowing us to discuss the crucial issues affecting the people? “But I am sure that their real face will be exposed before the public” said Sonia Gandhi.
Several senior Congress leaders including General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also addressed the rally at the historic Ramlila grounds.

Sonia Gandhi addresses Congress rally in Delhi, defends Congress and UPA

Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Sunday encouraged the partymen with an aggressive speech defending her party and the UPA government at the centre. She also reiterated that only Congress is committed to work for the benefits of the poor and underprivileged.
“You know that Congress party has always been working for the upliftment of the poor, aam aadmi, farmers, workers and all other sections of the people”  she said.
Stressing that the Congress was a party of the common man, weaker sections, poor and farmers, Sonia Gandhi said no other party in the country could compete with it on secularism. “The voters reposed faith in the Congress in 2004 and 2009. A few parties have not been able to digest this. We will once again do well in the coming polls,” she argued.
Slamming the opposition for leveling baseless charges against Congress and the UPA government, Sonia Gandhi said, “The opposition is levelling several allegations of corruption against the government. What is the truth and untruth in these allegations needs to be understood well.”
Referring corruption the Congress President said “Corruption is a cancer which affects the common man the most. We will fight all graft charges against us and none found guilty will be spared.  It was the Congress, which brought a strong legislation to tackle corruption – the RTI, through which any one can get information about the government”.
Taking a dig at BJP, Sonia Gandhi quipped “Those who are talking about corruption are finding themselves neck-deep in corruption.” She also slammed the opposition for trying to weaken the democratic system of the country.
Noting that the opposition had not allowed key legislations to be passed or allowed discussion on issues in parliament, she said the Congress would not allow them to succeed in their bid. “Congress is a party that has always protected the nation’s constitution,” said Sonia Gandhi.
