Congress focuses on capacity building programmes for poor

Launching a blistering attack on Mayawati government for simply doling out money to the poor, Congress (I) has said that the poor need capacity building programs so that they can stand up on their own feet. Congress felt that simply giving out money to the poor might not help them.  Rather it creates dependency factor among the poor. Congress (I) approach for development of Bundelkhand is focused on capacity building programs instead of distributing money to the poor just eying the vote bank, said Congress (I). Rahul Gandhi has been personally visiting drought hit Bundelkhand region and interacting with people there. A special package of Rs 7,000 crore was sanctioned by the Congress led UPA at the centre for integrated development of the region. But due to corruption in Mayawati’s government benefits of development schemes have not reached the poor, said congress (I). For instance, while deep bore-wells have been dug there is no water in them. Similarly plantation was undertaken but plants did not survive, Congress (I) said further.

Rahul Gandhi brought the issues of aam aadmi as the main agenda: Congress

Congress claimed that its General Secretary Rahul Gandhi was successful in bringing the issues of aam aadmi as the main agenda in the UP during the elections. Congress never thought of caste and religion. All the non-Congress parties in UP have been trying to divide the state in the name of caste or religion. But Congress General Secretary while addressing various election meetings highlighted the plight of aam aadmi and as a result it has become the main focus in the state, felt many Congress leaders.

Congress also accused BSP chief of throwing about promises of reservation to minority community without being sincere about it. Congress leaders admit that it is Rahul Gandhi who has put aam admi, not caste, on focus in the state as an agenda. Mayawati has been playing caste based vote bank politics. Same is the case with Mulayam Singh Yadav said Congress (I).  Congress feels that caste based politics can neither be beneficial for the state nor for the aam admi. “In last twenty years, the people of UP have seen only governments based on casteist lines. Only the Congress can provide a government which can serve the people without discrimination on caste lines. The day you elect a ‘government for all’, things will be normal and UP will be on a high growth trajectory,” has said Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi.

Congress slams BSP Govt on illegal removal of sand

Slamming Mayawati for allowing illegal removal of sand, Congress (I) has accused her of sand mineral scam leading to loss of thousands of crores in revenue. Uttar Pradesh is quite rich in natural resources.  Lime stone, sands, gravel and stones used in construction works are available in plenty in the state, said Congress (I).  In Bundelkhand alone every day 5000 truck loads of sand mineral is transported.  Each truck carries sand load worth Rs 6000. Each truck pay fee of Rs 5100 whereas receipt is issued for only Rs 2100, said Congress (I). The balance Rs 3000 is said to be share of Mayawati.  Locally it is popularly known as Maya ker.   In that one region daily business turnover is more than Rs 3 crore. Such scams of Mayawati are not only enriching her but also allowing plunder of the state’s natural resources by the private company, said Congress (I).
